Project description

The project "CULTURAL HERITAGE FROM PEOPLE TO A UNITED EUROPE" is a Partnership having the aim to use the cultural heritage of each people as a tool for a better self-understanding, to find out the similarities and the differences between different cultures in the respect of understanding and accepting these differences, towards a united Europe.

This project is financed with the support of the European Commission under Grundtvig Programme. Its activities began in August 2006 and will continue for 3 years.

Objectives:
- Creating a partnership to support social disadvantaged people for social integration by sharing cultural aspects and by combating xenophobia and racism
- Providing support for the social disadvantaged young people in their attempt to find out and understand the base of social norms, values and unwritten laws specific to the ethnic group or people they belong to
- Getting in touch with other cultures at local and European level and becoming aware of their definitive elements with the purpose of avoiding xenophobia and racism

Beneficiaries of the project are socio-economic disadvantaged young people between 16 and 25 years old, proceeding from poor or disorganized families, orphans, immigrants and gypsies.

Activities

· First international meeting in Romania (30 Oct.-5 Nov.2006); creation of the project team
· Second meeting in Spain (19-24 April 2007); consolidating of the project team, exchange of experiences
· Participating of beneficiaries to traditional activities and to workshops to create art objects, in mixed teams (natives and immigrants or gypsies), in order to understand better their own culture and the culture of other peoples they live nearby;
· Enlarging the knowledge horizon of beneficiaries by visiting other European countries and by meeting people of different cultures.

Products

· Logo of the project
· Brochure containing short studies about the peoples involved, examples of traditional customs, aspects from the project unfolding, impressions of the participants.
· Art objects as icon of wood and glass, jewelry of beads etc.
· Exhibition organized at the end of the third year, with products realized by the project's team and by the beneficiaries.

News

- The third meeting of the partners will take place in Bucharest between 21st and 25th of June 2007.
Agenda of this meeting contains:
- Presentations of the partners' activities and results during the first year
-meetings with the Romanian beneficiaries of the project - young people from the Placement Center St. Nicolas of the district 3 of Bucharest
-Sharing experiences
-Preparing the next steps of the project that will be unfolded during the summer
